AC Milan Legends: The Dutch Trio, Maldini, and Kaká
Founded in 1899, Milan have won seven European Cups/Champions Leagues and 19 Serie A titles (the latest in 2021–22). These are the players behind those numbers, as of October 2026.
Milan's Ballon d'Or winners
Gianni Rivera (1969), Ruud Gullit (1987), Marco van Basten (1988, 1989, 1992), George Weah (1995), Andriy Shevchenko (2004) and Kaká (2007): eight awards for six players.
The Dutch trio
Under Arrigo Sacchi, Ruud Gullit, Marco van Basten and Frank Rijkaard won back-to-back European Cups: 4–0 against Steaua in 1989 (two each for Gullit and van Basten) and 1–0 against Benfica in 1990 (Rijkaard).
The defense
Paolo Maldini (902 games, 1985–2009) and Franco Baresi (1977–1997) were one-club captains whose shirts, No. 3 and No. 6, are retired. Alessandro Nesta, Alessandro Costacurta and Cafu completed a legendary back line.
The Ancelotti era
Andriy Shevchenko scored the winning penalty in the 2003 final against Juventus and is the club’s second-highest scorer with 175 goals, behind Gunnar Nordahl’s 221. Kaká was top scorer of the 2006–07 Champions League and won it against Liverpool, with two goals from Filippo Inzaghi. Andrea Pirlo and Clarence Seedorf ran the midfield.
